Finding My Passion

Finding MyPurpose (1)

I started working at the hospital at the ripe old age of 19. I was full of energy and ready to make a difference in people’s lives by being part of an amazing team that helped take care of them. I had good pay, benefits, a flexible schedule, awesome colleagues, a stimulating environment and lots to learn. Within a short amount of time, I had a permanent full-time day position; which is THE position to have; essentially what most employees strive towards for years. I should have been thrilled but I wasn’t; I felt trapped. At 23 years old, I had to go on sick leave for burnout. I realized that my idea of a happy and fulfilling life didn’t fit the status quo and I needed to make some changes.

Fast forward to three years later, I went back to school, switched departments, went back to working evenings and now only work part-time. While I feel a lot better, I still feel that this isn’t what I’m meant to do for the rest of my life.

Over the years, I’ve had multiple side gigs and what I loved most about them was the freedom to choose what jobs I wanted to be part of, with whom I wanted to work and when I wanted to work. While none of the jobs I tried felt like something I could do long-term, they all reinforced one thing I’ve known all along; I want to be my own boss.

Then I stumbled upon coaching and WOW! This is what I want to do. Coaching is a combination of my love of studying human behaviour, my need for personal growth and development, my passion for fitness and helping others and the freedom I crave by being my own boss. I’ve spent the last few years reading books, articles and blogs, watching webinars, attending seminars and training sessions and then getting officially certified in May of 2016. I know there is still a lot to learn but for the first time in years, I’m excited to go to work again.

What are you passionate about? Are you making enough time to explore it?

  1. I’m amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and amusing, and
without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The
issue is something that not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy that I stumbled across this during my hunt for
    something regarding this.

  2. Hi Sammy!

I totally get what you mean. I’ve been a nurse for 5 years. I love my profession. Taking care of patients is what I thrive for. But after nursing in different departments, while enjoying it, I was also tired of the hectic, busy, “can’t afford to go to pee now” shifts. I felt like there was more for me out there.

And the same thing happened to me: I discovered health coaching, and the rest is history! I’ve found my niche and I’m slowly building my website. I’m giving 1-to-1 coaching to the people around, for free, to build my credibility.

While I’m still practicing as a nurse, I can’t wait to become my own boss. I’m actively working towards it! And I hope our paths will cross again 🙂

    Love,

    1. Hi Oudlie,

That’s great to hear! How were you introduced to health coaching? What niche are you serving? Is there a specific area you’re working in?

Health coaching is such an interesting field. I love that we can organize it in a way that is authentic to us and helpful to the niche we serve.

Wishing you all the best and hope our paths do cross again!

      Cheers,
      Sami xo
